Anglican church of St. John in the Wilderness is located of outskirts of McLeod Gunj – Tibetan part of Dharamsala. Before Tibetan refugees settled here — McLeod Gunj was summer vacation resort for British Raj officials. Next to this church is picturesque cemetery with stone Celtic crosses and typical British tombs. One grave is dedicated to James Bruce, 8th Earl of Elgin – Lord Elgin Governor-General & Viceroy of India. He died in Himachal Pradesh of a heart attack while crossing a swinging rope and wood bridge.
